About the Artist

Since Diane's mother was also an artist, painting had always been a big part of her life. As a child she loved drawing people, as an adult she hiked the red canyons of Nevada capturing the rugged landscape, but figurative painting has always been her passion. She says that teaching classes and workshops over the years has definitely helped to hone her painting skills. Diane's been involved in and won awards in Oil Painters of America and American Impressionist Society exhibits as well as being represented by several galleries; The Weatherburn Gallery, Naples Florida, The Lee Youngman Gallery, Calistoga California, The Willow Gallery, Scottsdale,Arizona and the Gallery at Summerlin, Las Vegas.

"In order for a painting to work it must be successful on several levels: design, drawing, color and emotional content. I’m always striving to bring the quality of all these elements together. Working in smaller formats (under 16"x20" ) makes it possible to hold onto and convey my original vision with energetic alla prima brushwork. Bisecting the canvas in a dynamic way causes a tension that infuses the breath of life into my paintings. Since a simple statement is a bold statement my palette is limited to as few choices as possible which also provides vivid color harmonies. I like to portray timeless subjects, ones that could have been painted last year or last century. My inspirations are family members, friends and people I meet. Using my sewing skills, I enjoy making costumes to fit the theme I have imagined."

Her compositions draw the viewer from across the room and into the painting. It'a about a moment in time, she says. She wants the viewer to complete the painting with their own personal point of view.
