Education Never Ends for an Artist

Laurie Meyer and Marissa Vogl are fresh off a week spent painting, learning, and playing in Port St. Joe, Florida at Plein Air South. Both of our fearless leaders acted as moderators for the event, while gallery artists Quang Ho and Anne Blair Brown were part of the prestigious faculty.

Laurie and Marissa fill us in on why the event was so fulfilling:

Says Meyer: “Plein Air South is a fabulous soul-filling experience for artists of every level. The faculty, including MVG artists Anne Blair Brown and Quang Ho, inspired the 200 attendees with their unique approaches to painting outside. Education never ends for an artist.

“The Forgotten Coast on the panhandle of Florida was ravaged by Hurricane Michael last season.  Port St. Joe was scattered with debris, devastation and vibrant businesses and incredible beauty.   The artists of Plein Air South were welcomed by the recovering community.

“I encourage artists of every level to gather with their tribe and reignite their engines with an experience like Plein Air South.”

Big, big congrats to our Marissa Vogl, who won first place in the member show!

Says Vogl: “PAS is so cool. It’s like summer camp for painters. We eat, sleep, dream painting, and get to geek out on art with some of the best plein air painters in the country. This year included artists Anne Blair Brown and Quang Ho, as well as others. Having the time to experience these influential artists up close is special. Mostly it’s camaraderie and conversation with other artists who share a genuine dedication to painting. All while being immersed in a unique part of the country, full of rustic beauty.”
