ROY. G. BIV: An Exploration Of The Color Spectrum By Laurie Meyer
Sep 02, 2016 - Sep 17, 2016
For ROY. G. BIV, oil painter Laurie Meyer has set her focus on color — red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet, to be exact. “Artists are illusionists who use color as their most magical trick,” Meyer says. “Color creates emotion, depth, dimension, and form.” Though color is always a key element of Meyer’s work, it is the core of this body of work.
“ROY G BIV is an acronym used to memorize the order of the spectral colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet,” Meyer explains. “My challenge for this show was to take one of each of the spectral colors and use it to dominate each painting, thereby harmonizing the other colors while creating depth and emotion. The paintings will be hung in rainbow order and the dominance will be quite clear and exciting.”
