DI News Author Series: History & Humor from the Greatest Generation

Daniel Island authors Bill and Ann Stevens will discuss their book “Dalton and Grace: Whimsical Short Stories of Life in Charleston” and island residents John and Linda Common will share their book “Dearest Bea”, a nonfiction collection of letters set home from a doctor in the 82nd Airborne stationed in Europe during WWII.

Fun fact: the cover illustration for "Dalton and Grace" was painted by our very own Laurie Meyer. The painting will be on view during the event.

Field & Flow: A Plein Air Retreat with Laurie Meyer

Live oaks, vast marsh views and lots of Lowcountry magic are a part of the luscious backyard for this plein air painting retreat on Johns Island, SC (just 15 minutes from downtown Charleston).

This workshop will focus on Laurie Meyer's first love - painting direct and secondary light and shadows.  By the end of the workshop you will have a clearer understanding of what it is you actually see in terms of light and shadow and will have practiced mixing the colors to give you the correct impression.  Paint application, edges, and composition will be folded into the instruction.

The small group number allows for ample one-on-one instruction time each day. The goal is to create a memorable Lowcountry experience where the painting, fine wine and conversations flow.

Thursday, November 17th - Sunday, November 20th, 2022
