Larry Moore
Abstraction From Nature
March 28 - 31
This 4-day class in Daniel Island, SC covers the fundamental tenets of design in art. It’s not specifically a non-objective (pure abstract) class; you get to decide the level of abstraction you wish to explore. This is a learn-how-to-think class where you receive a process that you can use to explore new ideas. It’s a crash course on finding authenticity in your work. We cover the seven tenets of creative expression and the language of art. Larry’s intent is to help each artist find a way that works that is unique to them, whether they wish to interpret from life, push their process, or go fully abstract.
Larry is versatile in all mediums, having worked extensively in pastel, acrylic, oil, gouache and mixed-media. Work in the medium you are most comfortable with. This is not a class for beginners; participants need to have some experience with drawing, color, and painting.
Larry is the author of Fishing for Elephants: Insights and Exercises to Inspire Authentic Creativity, as well as Poster and Process.

Michelle Held
Painting Birds
April 11, 12 & 13
Join this exciting workshop with Michelle Held. With an insatiable appetite for color, light, and texture, Michelle strives to inspire happiness, trigger your imagination, and make an emotional connection with the viewer. She believes evoking a feeling of light, space and passion is key to any successful contemporary painting.
Get ready to learn technique and form that you can apply into all your paintings. Michelle will cover design, composition, values and EDGES to make a dramatic luminous bird painting. You will learn fast and effective clay hand building! We will focus on accurate proportions, form and surface planes. As portrait artists study the form, we will do that with birds. Students can expect to have a finished clay model on day one. We then will study bird anatomy, gesture and proportions with drawing and paint; ultimately we will be studying the light effects on the birds that you have chosen. This use of a grisaille underpainting is a great way to exaggerate movement as well as capture light and shadow into your paintings. Painting from your sculpture and photos, Michelle will guide you on your path by helping you infuse heart and passion into your final masterpiece.
